love should save us from life
If nothing saves us from death, at least love should save us from life - Pablo Neruda Inspired by the story of William Wetmore Story and his Angel of Grief, this painting reflects on the fragile boundary between love, loss, and memory. The figure seems to surrender to the darkness, as if grief has gradually dissolved the weight of the body. There is no gesture of resistance, only the quiet exhaustion of having loved deeply. The faint presence of the body becomes almost a memory—something caught between existence and disappearance. For me, the work is not about death itself, but about what remains when love survives the person who gave it meaning. Perhaps this is the deepest paradox of love: it is what makes life worth living, and at the same time, what makes loss unbearable.
