Sellers should have the legal right to offer the works they list and must provide clear, accurate information about each piece. This includes authorship or attribution, date or period, medium, dimensions, condition and originality.
We aim to build a curated marketplace centred around unusual, atmospheric and characterful works, so listings should be appropriate for the Dark Gloomy Art audience and meet our marketplace standards.
Dark Gloomy Art is designed for distinctive historical and contemporary artwork with strong visual character, atmosphere and artistic interest.
Sellers may list original works including paintings, drawings, illustrations and other works on paper, as well as selected contemporary pieces.
Prints must be limited editions of 300 or fewer. This applies to all prints offered on the marketplace, including engravings, etchings, lithographs, woodcuts, giclée prints and fine art reproductions. Open edition prints and editions larger than 300 are not accepted.
We also welcome certain art related objects and decorative works where they are appropriate for the marketplace.
All listings should clearly state whether a work is an original, reproduction, limited edition or attributed work, and sellers should provide accurate information about the artist, date, medium, dimensions, condition and provenance.
What information should I include? Every listing should provide clear and accurate information about the artwork. This should include the artist or attribution, title, date or period, medium, dimensions, condition and whether the work is an original, reproduction or edition.
What photographs should I upload? Use clear, well lit photographs that accurately represent the artwork. Where relevant, include close up images of signatures, labels, frames, surface details, condition issues and the reverse of the work.
How should I describe the condition? Be transparent about the condition of the artwork and disclose any significant damage, restoration, repairs, staining, fading, losses or other imperfections. Buyers should be able to understand the condition of the work before purchasing.
What about provenance and authenticity? Where provenance, certificates, receipts or other supporting documentation are available, sellers should include this information in the listing. Attribution and authenticity claims must be made carefully and accurately.
Can I edit my listing later? Yes. Sellers should keep their listings accurate and up to date, particularly if information about the artwork, availability or condition changes.
What must I include when listing a limited edition print? Choose the Prints & Multiple category and enter the total edition size in Edition size. The complete edition must contain no more than 300 prints; this is not the number of copies you currently have for sale. Open edition prints and editions above 300 are not permitted.
In Edition / Print Details, give the print number where applicable (for example, 12/100) and state whether it is signed. Include clear photographs of any numbering or signature and describe any supporting documentation. Do not claim an edition size you cannot verify.
If you already have a print listed, update it with its edition size. Existing listings must meet the same limited edition rule.
How does Discover help my artwork stay visible? Discover is the marketplace’s default browsing order. It mixes the artwork and rotates the starting point every hour, giving listings recurring opportunities to appear near the front. Older artwork is not permanently pushed to the back simply because newer listings are added.
Does the order change while a buyer is browsing? Buyers see up to 48 artworks per page. Their browsing order stays consistent as they move between pages, so the hourly rotation does not reshuffle the selection midway through browsing. A new browsing session can start with a different selection.
Do I need to relist my artwork? No. Published listings join Discover automatically after a short processing delay. You do not need to delete, repost or repeatedly edit a listing to take part in the rotation.
What happens when buyers search or filter? Filters narrow the selection to matching artwork. Discover rotates that selection, while buyers can also choose Newest, Lowest price or Highest price. Keyword searches normally use Relevance to help buyers find what they are looking for.
How can I help buyers find my work? Use clear photographs, an accurate title and description, and the correct categories and artwork details. Keep availability up to date. Discover creates ongoing opportunities for individual artworks to be seen as the marketplace grows; it does not guarantee equal views for every artist or a sale.
Dark Gloomy Art charges sellers a 20% commission when an artwork is successfully sold through the marketplace.
For example, on a $1,000 sale, the marketplace commission is $200 and the seller receives $800 before any separate payment processing fees.
There are no listing fees and no commission to pay unless a sale is completed. The 20% commission helps us operate the marketplace, support buyers and sellers, promote the platform, and continue building a community around dark and atmospheric art.

Sell exclusively with Dark Gloomy Art and pay 15% marketplace commission instead of the standard 20%. This optional arrangement is for artists who agree to sell their artwork only through our marketplace during an agreed period. You can keep sharing your work on your own channels, with buyers directed to your Dark Gloomy Art listings to purchase.
More frequent promotion on Instagram and Facebook. Exclusive artists receive priority in our social content schedule, including recurring artwork features, artist spotlights, new-release announcements and repeat showcases of available work. Depending on the material available, we use posts, carousels, Stories and Reels or studio videos to introduce your work and the story behind it. We credit and tag you where possible and guide interested buyers to your marketplace listings.
Working together on promotion. Supply clear artwork images, your artist biography and, where available, studio photographs or short videos. Keep us updated on new releases so we can plan coverage. Promotion is more frequent than our standard seller coverage, but timing and formats vary; fixed posting numbers, paid advertising, reach and sales are not guaranteed unless separately agreed.
How to join. Contact Dark Gloomy Art to agree your start date, duration, any existing commitments or exceptions, and notice terms in writing. The 15% rate must be confirmed before the arrangement starts. Separate payment processing fees and other applicable costs still apply.

Commission explained
The commission rate stays the same at every sale price. These examples show the marketplace commission and the seller's proceeds before any separate payment processing fees.
Examples are shown in US dollars. Any separate payment processing fees are displayed before the transaction is confirmed.
Payments are processed securely through the Dark Gloomy Art marketplace using its integrated payment provider.
When an artwork is sold, the buyer completes payment through the marketplace. The seller then prepares and dispatches the artwork in accordance with the order and shipping requirements.
Seller proceeds are paid out according to the marketplace's payment and payout process, after applicable commission and payment processing fees have been deducted.
Sellers may be required to complete identity and payment verification before receiving payouts.
Dark Gloomy Art welcomes artists and sellers from around the world. If Stripe is not available in your country, you can request to have your artwork listed through our company marketplace account.
Email admin@darkgloomyart.com with your name, country, a short artist biography, and details of the works you would like to sell. Please include clear photographs, titles, medium, dimensions, condition, prices and shipping information.
Once your request is approved and arrangements are agreed, our team will manually upload your artwork to the Dark Gloomy Art company account, credit you as the artist or seller, and handle the marketplace listing and sales process. The same 20% seller commission applies to completed sales through this service. We will agree payment to you, delivery responsibilities and how returns are handled before publishing your work. You do not need to open your own Stripe account for this service.

How do I set shipping prices by country? You choose the shipping prices for each artwork. When creating a listing, use the Delivery step. To update an existing listing:
Only add countries you can ship to. Buyers choose their delivery country and see the matching shipping charge before payment.
A few simple options
Set prices that cover your packaging and delivery costs. Check your carrier’s charges before adding a destination.
Who is responsible for shipping? Sellers are responsible for securely packaging and dispatching artworks sold through the marketplace.
How should artworks be packaged? Artwork should be packed using appropriate protective materials for its size, value and condition. Particular care should be taken with framed, glazed, fragile or high value works.
Should I use tracked delivery? Where possible, sellers should use a reliable tracked delivery service and provide tracking information to the buyer. Appropriate insurance should also be considered for valuable works.
How quickly should I dispatch an order? Sellers should prepare and dispatch orders within the timeframe stated in their listing or marketplace requirements. If a delay occurs, the buyer should be informed as soon as possible.
Who is responsible if an artwork is damaged in transit? Sellers should package works carefully and retain any relevant shipping documentation. If an item arrives damaged, the buyer and seller should communicate promptly and provide photographs or other evidence where required.
Accurate listings Sellers must provide clear, accurate and honest information about every artwork they list, including authorship or attribution, date, medium, dimensions, condition and originality.
Condition disclosure Any significant damage, restoration, repairs, staining, fading, losses or other imperfections should be clearly disclosed in the listing.
Authenticity and attribution Sellers must not make misleading claims about the artist, origin, age or authenticity of a work. Terms such as “attributed to”, “circle of”, “school of” and “after” should be used carefully and appropriately.
Ownership and legal right to sell Sellers must have the legal right to offer an artwork for sale and must not list stolen, counterfeit or unlawfully obtained works.
Professional communication Sellers should respond to buyers professionally, provide requested information where reasonably possible and communicate promptly if an issue arises with an order.
Marketplace standards Dark Gloomy Art may review or remove listings that do not meet marketplace standards or that contain misleading, inappropriate or incomplete information.
